Does my child need sunglasses?

Your child also needs protection from harmful UV rays

Child Female Wearing SunglassesWe all know that before our children go out into the sun they need a hat and sunscreen. Many people do not realize that our children’s eyes also need protection from dangerous UV rays.

Children are often more susceptible to dangerous ultraviolet rays that can increase the likelihood of problems like macular degeneration, cataract, and corneal sunburn.

Because kids spend a lot of time in the outdoors, and their eyes haven’t fully developed yet it is important that they wear sunglasses that block 100% of UVA and UVB rays, even on days that are cloudy or overcast.

A couple of things to know about kids sunglasses.

At Miller Vision Specialties we believe that the material of the lenses should ideally be made from polycarbonate. This is ideal for kids because it’s impact-resistant and lighter than standard lenses while also being UV protective.

Large frames always provide the best protection. The frame should be close-fitting and flexible. Kids tend to be rough with their glasses.
